In November, the Oiselle team is raising funds for Every Mother Counts and you can help!
Every Mother Counts (EMC) is a campaign to end preventable deaths caused by pregnancy and childbirth around the world by informing, engaging, and mobilizing new audiences to take action to improve the health and well-being of girls and women worldwide. The organization was founded by Supermodel Christy Turlington in 2010 after years of activism in the realm of women’s pre and postnatal health (read Christy’s interesting journey here – she seems SO down to earth and totally cool!).
Although in the United States we have access to wonderful pre and post natal care, pregnancy and birth is still a serious and dangerous journey. In countries without easy and affordable access to health care and hospitals, the process of bringing a life into the world is even more life threatening. Every Mother Counts is working toward making it safer for mothers everywhere.
One of the ways that you and I can help the cause is to download the app Charity Miles and begin tracking our miles for the cause. The goal is for everyone to run 26 of the 30 days in November (or at least track 1 mile per day – even if it’s just walking!). For every mile run, 25 cents will be donated to Every Mother Counts.
Physical distance (proximity to a hospital, etc) is the greatest barrier for women to get the pre and post natal care they need and with running we will do what we can to reduce that barrier. The kick off for the Oiselle-Every Mother Counts fundraiser was November 1 but it isn’t too late to download the app and start tracking your miles now! Bonus points for tweeting your miles to spread the word!
