Under Armour, a company that I’ve always held in high regard as being one of the front runners in fitness apparel and accessories, recently launched a contest called “What’s Beautiful.” According to the contest website, the challenge is “A Competition to Redefine the Female Athlete.” UA has challenged women to set a goal for themselves and then to show the world as they work toward achieving it. The challenge can be as big or as small and as specific or general as you want.
Once you’ve announced your goal by uploading a video of about it and how you will achieve it, there are 19 additional challenges to be completed over the course of the 9 week contest. You can do them in any order you like. So far I’ve completed 6 challenges, including “You Can Count On Me” (upload a photo of the body part that will most help you achieve your goal), “Two a Day” (workout two times in one day and post a picture from both) and “Upload Your Game Face” (self explanatory). You can also upload additional videos to get ahead.
At the end of the 9 weeks, 10 finalists will be selected that will receive $1,000 in Under Armour gear. From the finalists, three winners will be selected (based on what exactly, that is still unknown). The prizes include “training with UA celebrity trainers, a nutritionist consultation and gear for a year featuring the latest Under Armour products. These three women will become the new faces of the brand, participating in Under Armour Women’s marketing efforts and gaining access to special events.”
Redefining the Female Athlete
The goals that women set for themselves are so diverse. From runners wishing to PR to fitness competition hopefuls to new moms wanting to shed baby weight, each woman’s goal is unique. Some of my favorite goals so far are:
I WILL… Climb Mt. Kilamanjaro
I WILL… Run a half marathon in under 2 hours. 🙂 (My goal last year!)
I WILL… Get a full-fledged 4-pack!
I WILL… Safely return from a stress fracture and reclaim my previous fitness level of a sub-18 5k.
I WILL… Change the face of the 40 something mom!!
I WILL…Train for, enter, and complete a duathlon.
I WILL… Become a yogi.
Can you guess my goal?
You got it.
I WILL… Complete my first Ironman triathlon.
Just so happens the contest ends on the day of my Ironman. Must be fate!
If you want to join in on all the fun, sign up and declare you goal at http://whatsbeautiful.ua.com/
That sounds like a really great contest; I hope you are one of the finalists!
I think it is meant to be that your IM falls on the same day!
