Happy Ironman to Me

Some people buy themselves birthday presents – I decided to buy myself an Ironman present. Every time I end up in the Lululemon store, I oohh and ahhh over the pretty workout clothes but just can’t bring myself to throw down as much money as a round trip flight to SF or Vegas for a tank top and shorts. However, I wanted to get myself a special treat for all of my hard work this year and what a better way to treat myself than with a fabulous Lululemon ensemble to wear for the run portion of the race? I know some hardcore people like to swim/bike/run in the same outfit in order to save precious moments in transition, but for me, the thought of spending up to 17 hours in the same sweaty outfit sounds miserable.

I haven’t purchased any run specific workout clothes in probably a year and therefore have already worn all my comfy/cute workout clothes in a race. Since I anticipate to be photographed in my Ironman gear hundreds of times (Yes, hundreds. My parents like to take pictures and they have very nice cameras), I better make sure that I like my outfit. Also, my Dad has repeatedly informed me that it is very difficult to find me on a race course in my blue or grey tank top and he highly recommended I wear something BRIGHT in future races. After doing someone online research at Lululemon.com, I ventured into the store last Friday with one mission – find the brightest, cutest running gear possible.

Mission accomplished.

Not only is the top florescent pink (although this photo does NOT give it justice), the pants have a pink band around the waist. The top did it’s part in that it is moisture wicking and adorable, but the pants are really where it’s at (you may wonder why I didn’t go with shorts – I don’t really like to run in shorts and rarely do). These awesome running capris have SEVEN pockets, including a normal back zipped pocket, two large ones on the side that you may not even realize were pockets at first glance and four hidden ones in the waist band.

Pockets Galore!

(Yes Lululemon, I am available for fitness modeling – I can recreate that grin in a heart beat and can be paid in workout gear and Gu)

And of course, Lululemon is known for not only cute gear but also smart gear. Both parts of my race ensemble include flat seams to deter chafing, reflective detailing and grippy silicone dots to prevent anything from moving around. I took this outfit for a test run yesterday and everything went perfectly. I love that there is no draw string cord so my waistline is nice and flat rather than bumpy. Not only was I comfortable, no car would ever miss me in this outfit, providing extra security that I won’t become road kill.

Happy Ironman to Me!

Have you ever bought yourself a congratulations gift for accomplishing a fitness goal? What did you buy? Do you try to wear outfits on race day that stand out?

Love that so much though went into the outfit. 🙂 I’ve resisted lulu so far but my fellow GOTR coaches are FIENDS! Admittedly, I’m afraid to step into the store in case I become one too.

anyways, super cute outfit. Love the pink. I think if I ever splurge and get a nice tri bike I have to get the pink one! and then all pink tri outfits to match ;o)

I read in a marathon book that one of the things you should buy yourself is an outfit that matches and looks good. The better you look (feel about how you look) the better you will perform (in my opinion). Very cool! Save some money for the expo and after the race! I easily dropped $300+ on stuff!
On the wearing the same stuff all day, I do that. Mostly because I can’t imagine trying to change clothes in the middle of a race! And luckily I like tri shorts and can run and bike in them easily.

Aw, great idea! It’ll be so important to feel (and look) good during the run!
