Week 2 of my 4 week mission to get bikini ready for my bachelorette party had some definite accomplishments as well as a few failures. Coming off a big week last week and knowing I had a race (albiet a “fun run”) on Thursday, I eased off a bit in the beginning of the week and then ramped it up hard with a long, hilly ride on Sunday (long relative to my current fitness level on the bike that is). Nutrition was a bit shaky this week, mostly due to the holiday and a full day of family events Saturday.
Here’s how the week went down:
Monday:
Mike finished putting together his road bike on Sunday so we celebrated Monday morning with his first ride. We just bike down to Del Mar and back, for a total of about 10 miles of riding. Easy effort and it only took about 40 minutes which gave me time to get dressed and head over to Club Pilates for the 7 a.m. Cardio Sculpt class. I really liked this class! It was higher intensity than normal and I was sweating within minutes. More on that later.
After work I met up with Asia for 4.4 easy miles as part of the weekly Movin Shoes group run.
Tuesday:
Started my morning with Level 2 Club Pilates class that rocked my world – I’m really starting to love reformer pilates! The classes are always different and all the crazy contraptions really help you get a full body workout while also maintaining good form.
After work I had plans to get in another spin on the trainer but ended up skipping it.
Wednesday: Rest.
Thursday:
Independence Day 15k. 1 hour 17 minutes of fun running in crazy pants with my bestie and love followed by brunch, beach time, massive quantities of chips and guacamole and a few beers on Asia’s patio.

Friday:
6 a.m. Level 2 Club Pilates. At first I thought I was going to be the only person in class but two people showed up late and made it three. This class was really hard but in a good way. Since we went to bed before 10 the night before, it wasn’t too bad being up that early and my legs weren’t even sore from the race since it wasn’t full effort.
Saturday:

Rest. Mike and I left the house at 7:30 a.m. to go up to OC for my 1 month Lasik follow up appointment (everything looks great – still have better than 20/20 vision and everything is healing perfectly!) and then went to visit friends and their baby before heading to a baby shower and family reunion. We weren’t home til 10 p.m. and I was asleep within a minute of my head hitting the pillow! Babies are exhausting and I don’t even have one yet!
Sunday:
40 Mile Ride with Lots of Climbing. Mike and I are gearing up for Active X Endurance Camp next weekend and we know that we’ll be riding a lot. In order to get ready, we decided to tackle our old favorite training ride from our Ironman days. We modified it a little to reduce it (we’d add on loops and double up on this loop to get to our desired mileage during IM training). Overall I felt good! I pushed it pretty hard for the majority of the ride and was happy with my average pace. It felt great to be riding again! By the end of the ride, my quads were screaming and I was exhausted!
Weekly Totals:
- Swim: 0
- Bike: 2 rides, 50 miles
- Run: 2 runs, 13.7 miles
- Strength Train: 3 sessions, 2.5 hours
- Total Time: 7 hours 45 minutes
I anticipated no swim this week (as I’m pretty much only planning to do group swims and there were none planned this week) but I did plan to run and cycle one more time but ended up skipping both. Overall though it was still a solid week of training despite 2 rest days!
Nutrition

I had some really good days nutritionally this week but also some slip ups. I did have 3 beers on the 4th of July but I planned on it and didn’t drink the rest of the week. Although I didn’t eat anything too bad on the 4th, I ate a ton of guacamole and chips and a huge vegan cookie. The worst of the week was the Saturday we were up in OC – I started with a healthy breakfast and lunch but ended up eating 3 pieces of pizza and carrot cake at the family party.
Despite a few indulgences and missing a couple workouts, it was still a fairly solid week. I’m feeling much better already. My stomach is getting flatter and sculpted thanks to the intense core work at Club Pilates. I feel like I’m in the home stretch now – only 10 days til VEGAS!
