Training for a New Finish Line

New adventures with our expanding family! (This was our social media announcement)
New adventures with our expanding family! (This was our social media announcement – photo taken at the top of Angel’s Landing in Zion).

As I alluded in a previous blog post, this year is about other goals besides the BQ. It’s not about running at all. Or triathlon. This is certainly a change as the last 5 years have been very focused on fitness. This year is the year of the BABY! (Maybe some of you even guessed!?).

I’m happy to announce that Mike and I are expecting our first child on or around September 25th! I’m exactly 14 weeks pregnant today and finally in the 2nd trimester!

I must say, I’m terrible at keeping secrets that excite me and I have been wanting to blog all about this pregnancy but I was able to hold out until we are out of the risky time. The first trimester was certainly harder than I anticipated, but I’ll have more to share on that in another post. For now, all I have to say is that we are absolutely THRILLED! We had planned to start a family after my BQ at CIM and our last hurrah trip to New Zealand – while one of those plans didn’t work out as well as hoped, I wouldn’t change a thing.

I definitely plan to blog about my experience and hopefully provide some insight for future mothers who plan to run/stay active during pregnancy (I know I’ve read my fair share of blogs about pregnant runners) as well as bring back some memories for those of you who have been there. And I’d love to hear about your experiences running during pregnancy as well! This blog is about my life above anything else, and while I don’t want it to become all about being pregnant, let’s be honest – that’ll be my life for the next 6 months. So keep reading or join me next year when I pick back up with marathon training, but either way, thanks for reading and I look forward to what comes next!

Cheers to the next adventure…

So happy for you!! Having a baby and being pregnant, in my experience is one of the most amazing things we as women could ever do in life. Watching out bodies change and get ready for birthing is the most beautiful and honest thing.

I send you happy vibes and can’t wait to read your blog for the next 6 months. I tried to run and even did a Reach The Beach Relay just into my second trimester. By 7 months I REALLY slowed down. I got myself a belt to support my belly and that enabled me to run a little longer (stuck to walking and prenatal koundalini yoga after) I was right back in shape after 5 months postpartum. Better shape now than I was pre pregnancy!
One thing I can suggest is looking into a doula. A doula is your birth coach but, will also look after you and baby postpartum (in my opinion the toughest time). If you plan on breastfeeding, a doula is super helpful as well.

And one last thing, perhaps look into getting your placenta prepared into pill form as it’ll help regulate your hormones postpartum and help with iron levels and milk supply. I swore by it!
Again, can’t wait to read your adventures in growing a life! In your belly if course! ๐Ÿ™‚
    Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so happy for you and Mike, Nicole! I love reading everything baby, so can’t wait to follow along with your pregnancy! I’m amazed you ran a few races already- baby is sure to be fit!
I would definitely agree with Lizzie- get a maternity support belt for running! I used it for everyday life towards the end!

Beyond excited for you, Nicole!!! Oh how our stories and experiences are so similarโ€ฆ there must have been something in the water at CIM??? Haha. Too bad we donโ€™t live closer โ€“ it would sure be fun to start a preggo running group. โ˜บ

Congratulations!! I got pregnant just after CIM too & have the same due date!! I know Kristen got pregnant after CIM also. Too funny! I bet we saw each other at CIM — my pace was right around yours. I read your race recap just afterward, but never had a chance to comment. I’m excited to read your pregnancy updates and follow along. Like Kristen said, too bad we can’t all have a pregnant running group! ๐Ÿ™‚ Congrats again!
