Happy Monday! I’m having a wonderful morning because Siena decided to sleep until 5:30 a.m. this morning which meant I got 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep for the first time in a long time. Let me tell you that I needed it after a busy weekend full of hard workouts. Before I get into that, I want to share with you that I finally created a Facebook page for my blog! I’d really appreciate it if you’d “like” my Facebook page!
Friday morning I decided to take advantage of the $19 Class Pass trial I recently signed up for and head to Yoga Six for their 6 a.m. Power Class (this is a class I’m hoping to make it to when I go back to work). It was a really great challenge and I left the class invigorated and excited for the day. I’ve been really loving the advanced yoga classes lately – I can’t do all the moves but the challenge is exciting!
Saturday I headed out for my long run, sadly solo since my running buddy Allison was in Big Bear, BUT it felt like I was running 9 miles with friends because I listened to the Running on Om podcast the entire way. I listened to the “Ask Lauren Fleshman” podcast and it was incredibly insightful and entertaining. The miles really flew by and I was able to concentrate on the podcast easily. I wouldn’t recommend doing a speed workout or tempo run while listening to a podcast but for base building miles, it’s great! I had to do my run at noon because Mike went surfing in the morning so it was hot and I ended up with a sunburn but I was happy that my pace was in the mid 9 minute mile range for the entire 9 miles. Progress people!

On Sunday morning I drove down to Hillcrest (about 30 min south of Encinitas) and met up with Asia for our first Barry’s Boot Camp workout (also part of Class Pass). I’ve been wanting to try this workout for years, but never made it all the way down there. It was THE HARDEST workout class I’ve ever taken (I didn’t say workout because I’ve had long runs and/or speed workouts that were harder). The format is 6 x 8 minute intervals, with 3 sets on the treadmill and 3 sets of high intensity full body weight training. The 8 minute treadmill intervals include various speeds and inclines and they really encourage you to push it hard. I was running 10 mph (6 minute mile) at times and it felt great! We left the class soaking wet and totally exhausted. Just how I like it! I’m really sad that there isn’t a Barry’s up here because I think it’d be a great way to get in some speedwork. There is an Orange Theory near my house, which has the same format but also includes a rowing machine and I think I’ll try that, although it’s pretty expensive so I wouldn’t be able to justify going more than 1 time a week.

Between all these fun workouts, Mike and I had a date night (thanks Nana and Boo for babysitting), we had a family dinner at Mike’s sister’s house and Asia and I got a yummy vegan lunch at Cafe Gratitude after our workout class. And of course lots of play time with Siena. It was an exhausting weekend but also really fun and definitely felt like I am getting my groove back. Today is definitely a rest day!
In other news, I got my Rock n’ Blog discount code! This is good for $15 off any US or Canadian half or full Rock n’ Roll marathon (shorter distances excluded) with some exceptions (for example, LA is in pre-sale and therefore the code isn’t eligible on the pre-sale price). A friend also asked me to share her discount code for the Destination Race series (race through wine country!). Use code DRAMBCUS for $10 off any of their races. Enjoy!
Last, I wanted to personally invite all you to join my friend Allison in her 21 Day Fix Challenge which starts next Monday. Please let me know ASAP if you want to join! In her words:
The formula is simple:
✅Portion Control eating plan (when I did this I couldn’t believe how much I was over eating for no reason!)
✅Superfood Shake to help cut cravings and gain more energy (lots of yummy flavor options!)
✅30 Minute Work outs (perfect for moms, workin’ gals and just busy people!)
✅Online accountability (you can do anything for 21 days, and I will help u!)
That’s IT! I promise we won’t over complicate it and we will have fun! Better yet, I promise you will see results.
Besides providing amazing results, 21 Day Fix is also an incredibly affordable program. Purchase the base program here for only $59.85 or even better, purchase the Challenge Pack here which includes 1 month of Shakeology here and save $70 off the combined retail price of purchasing Shakeology and 21 Day Fix separately (basically they are paying you $10 to do 21 Day Fix this way).
In other exciting Beachbody news, Tony Horton’s new program 22 Minute Hard Corps was released on March 1st. I plan to purchase it this week and use it to supplement my half marathon training. The program is 8 weeks and each workout is an intense 22 minutes. Who doesn’t have 22 minutes to spend on themselves? The program is incredibly affordable too at only $39.90 for the base package and for a limited time, includes FREE SHIPPING!
How was your weekend? What’s the hardest workout you’ve ever done? Anyone interested in 21 Day Fix or 22 Minute Hard Corps?
That sounds like a super fun workout! I love classes that really mix things up like that – it makes the time go by so fast plus you feel like you can work extra hard because the time is so broken up. The hardest workout class I ever did was possibly one I did a few months ago. It was done on a track and was alternating sprint laps with laps doing other exercises like walking lunges, traveling burpees, bear crawl, etc. Normally doing the exercises wouldn’t be too hard but they felt extra tough about halfway around the track!
P.S. Your new Facebook page looks great!
That sound super hard! I think anything that has running sprints between is going to be a tough workout!
Yay for 8 hours of sleep! Isn’t it amazing how much better you feel? Now that Allie is sleeping through the night in her crib I feel like a new woman. 🙂
Yes it is amazing. I feel like even though she sleeps 8-9 hours straight most nights I don’t get that much since I go to bed after her and because it takes me so long to fall asleep and I often wake up in the middle of the night when I hear a noise or something. So 8 hours of solid sleep was MUCH needed! Glad you’re getting better sleep too!!!
Cheers to sleeping babies! It sounds like you had a really fun weekend. I wish we had some of those fancy classes in my small town. I’ve seen people rave about Orange Theory. I guess it is probably good for my bank account that we don’t have them. Haha.
I’m going to have to check out those podcasts. It seems like they would be good and entertaining for longer runs. Sometimes it’s nice to switch things up and listen to something other than music.
