Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful Easter or weekend in general if you don’t celebrate. We had a great time at my family’s annual Easter party which includes an Easter egg hunt and dinner. It was fun to reflect on how much Siena has grown in the last three months since Christmas when most of the family saw her last.
My first weekly training recap also happens to be my first week back at work! It was a short week because I started on Tuesday with a half day and then only worked til 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday was a work holiday. I planned it that way and am really glad I did because it made going back a whole lot less overwhelming. As a result, I was still able to work out every day this week without waking up at before dawn to do it (Siena took an afternoon nap after I picked her up and then fed her every day). As I talked about in my last post, this coming week will be the real test of balancing motherhood, full time work and training.
As of now, there are 4 weeks left until the La Jolla Half Marathon, which I’m really treating as more of a training run than anything else. There are 10 weeks until the Rock n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon, which plan to race (Use code FITNESSFATALE for $15 off if you want to join – or run one of the other RnR events). I was relieved when I counted the weeks and discovered I have 10 to work with – I feel like I can make some good progress in that time!
Monday – Monday was our first day back after vacation and I had a few errands to run so my mother in law came over and watched Siena. I went for a 6 mile easy run with a few strides during the last mile and ran errands afterward. I had considered trying to make this is a longer run since I didn’t get a long run in the week before, but decided to ease into it since it had been a full week since I ran.
Tuesday – In the afternoon I met up with Allison for a run with the strollers on the coast while Siena slept. We ran 5 miles and it was really therapeutic to get outdoors after a pretty emotional morning of my first day of work and Siena’s first time at day care.
Wednesday – After I fed Siena and got her down, I got into bed myself, pretty exhausted, but couldn’t fall asleep. My mind was racing and I thought that I might feel better if I worked out. I’m actually a part of my friend Allison’s 21 Day Fix Facebook Challenge group and I must say that the ladies in the group are really motivating me even though I’m not doing the program! I thought of them and decided to get in P90X3 CVX workout. The workout is 30 minute long and is basically cardio moves with a weight (I used 5 lb weight for most moves, occasionally an 8 pound move). I was sore the next day so I know I was working hard! I also added in a few planks at the end for some ab work.

Thursday- Again, after Siena was down for her nap, I put in another Beachbody workout. When I got home, I found that Tony Horton’s new 22 Minute Hard Corps workout had been delivered and I had to try a workout! I put in Cardio 1 and really loved it! It was a hard 22 minutes (only 3 x 22 seconds of rest during it) and I felt incredibly energized by it!
Friday – Yay for holidays! Asia also had the day off (Mike did not) and we met up for a 4.3 mile run along the coast (I pushed Siena in the stroller) and then had a yummy lunch afterward.

Saturday – As usual, I met up with Allison for our Saturday run. Instead of our usual route on the trails near my house, we met at the coast so that I could add on a few miles afterward. She and I ran 6 miles together and I tacked on an additional 4 to make it 10 miles. I also tried to pick up the pace for the final two miles, especially the final mile. It felt good to move faster, though my pace was still a far cry from my pre-pregnancy tempo runs.
Sunday – My first yoga class in weeks! It felt great to get in an hour long Power Yoga class at Yoga Six before the Easter festivities began.
Totals:
- Miles Run: 25.3
- Strength Training/Yoga: ~2 hours
Although I had meant to get in some speed work in the form of hill repeats this week, it just didn’t happen. As I said in my last post, I’m struggling a bit but I did end up buying a treadmill this weekend so I’m hoping that now I can do my speed work on that have a lot less room for excuses!
When did you start pushing Siena in the stroller? I want to start taking Olivia out on runs but am not sure when I’m really supposed to do it…Good job still getting all your training in during your first week back!
I started around 2 months with just slow runs on smooth pavement. It was earlier than the BOB manual recommends but I was comfortable with it!
Have you done more 22 minute hard corps? Looking to try that one next as my husband and I loved P90X3. I took my oldest out at 3 months as I couldn’t stand being in the house not running, I think the BOB just says 6 months for legal reasons…
Not not yet but I have a beachbody client who is doing it and loves it! I plan to try the strength 1 and abs workouts this week. I’ll definitely do a write up about it! And I totally agree about the BOB!
A lot of your routes seem to be near the water! Do you live near all of these beautiful places or do you have to drive to get there? I have been contemplating getting a treadmill to make running a little more accessible if need be (i.e., during Axel’s naps) but haven’t made the purchase yet. Maybe I’ll put in on my Christmas list. It’s such a big purchase!
I used to live near the water and could walk out my front door and do these runs but now I live about 3 miles inland so it’s a 10 minute or so drive to the coast. I pretty much can only take the stroller on the coast since its mostly trails near my house!
I bought the treadmill on Craig’s List and it was really affordable that way!
Hi Nicole, I first found your blog back when I started p90x during med school, which was also life-changing for me in terms of fitness. Lately I’ve been writing about work-life balance and re-found your blog, and am so impressed by your juggling of training, working and mothering!! I find it hard enough to balance fitness and work, so I can’t imagine how you do it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Kim! That means a lot!
