Well week 6 is nearly over but I wanted to get the week 5 recap out on it’s own before the week ends. I always intend to get these recaps done on a weekly basis but it life gets in the way and sometimes they end up getting pushed back. It’s been a crazy couple weeks as my mom was unable to babysit last week, Mike was out of town and then sick again, and Siena has been having some not-so fun sleep habits. But, the good news is, my training is going REALLY well and I am finally feeling a boost in fitness that I haven’t experienced since before pregnancy. So THAT’S a win!
Before I get into the recap, I wanted to remind you that I my contest to win a free entry to any Craft Classic (San Diego, Phoenix or Seattle) race is still going until 10 PM on March 5th. Find out how to enter here. I also still have a couple spots in my free 10 day bootcamp which starts on Monday, March 6th! You’ll need to contact me no later than tomorrow, Saturday, March 4th in order to get everything set up to start Monday (more info here).
Here’s how last week went:
Monday: Upper Fix in the morning before Mike and I headed to Poway for a 3 hour hike near Iron Mountain. It was President’s Day and Mike had the day off so I took it off too and we dropped Siena at his parent’s house for the day. We got coffee, went for a hike and had lunch together. It was a great day!
Tuesday: 7 mile run in the morning with Kelly. The sunrise was beautiful and this felt pretty good! It’s so nice to get it out of the way first thing too!
Wednesday: Lower Fix as well as a 45 minute stroller run on the 101.
Thursday: Pilates Fix in the morning and a 8 mile run with speed intervals on the treadmill in the late afternoon. We had a birthday party on Wednesday night so I missed my group run and had to do it on my own. It kind of worked out becuase my hike on Monday kind of threw my schedule off a bit. The run was hard but I got in my goal paces (I always do my treadmill runs at a 1% incline).
Here’s the workout:
1 mile w/u
8 min @ 7:40 pace, 2 min @ 7:20
6 min @ 7:40, 2 x 2 min @ 7:20
4 min @ 7:30, 3 x 2 min @7:15
1 mile @ 8:05/7:59
Cool down to 8 miles
Each smaller segments had just 60 seconds rest between and then there was 90 seconds rest between each larger segment.
Friday: 21 Day Fix Dirty 30 and 40 minute recovery stroller run.

Saturday: I had to miss the group run to attend a memorial service for my friend Monika who tragically passed away from brain cancer last month. Monika and I knew each other through Girls on the Run as well as our blogs and connected even more after we had our daughters within months of each other. Her Celebration of Life ceremony was emotional and inspirational at the same time – Monika was such an amazing women and she truly changed the lives of so many people in her short time on earth.
After the memorial, I went for my 10 mile long run (it was a recovery week) along the harbor in downtown San Diego. It’s been a while since I ran down there and I forgot how beautiful it is! Becuase I got a late start there were a ton of tourists out but once I got past the main harbor area I was able to gather my thoughts. When I got to Harbor Island, the view of downtown San Diego in the distance took my breath away and truly made me thankful to be alive. I know this route was one of Monika’s favorites so it felt like a bit of a tribute to her. I ran the last 3 miles back to my car in the low 8s, pushing the pace a bit and feeling thankful for the ability to run.
Sunday: Yoga Fix. An easy recovery day. A friend and I took our daughters to the children’s museum and enjoyed a fun morning.
Weekly Totals:
- Miles Run: ~33
- Hours Cross-Training/Hiking/Strength training: 5.5
I feel like my speed is coming back. I also was proud that I got in my goal of 5 21 Day Fix workouts this week! I’m seeing strength increases and also some physical changes as well. The speed of my 10 mile long run was much faster than any longer runs I’ve done lately and the intervals on the treadmill felt great. I think I’m finally seeing some progress and it feels good!
How do you usually judge your training progress?
I am so proud of you, Nicole. I was very moved by your tribute to your friend. You are such a caring friend.
Aw thank you Asma! That means a lot!
