The second trimester is underway and I’m super excited to say that I’m feeling a lot better. Luckily that happened around 15.5 weeks when I was leaving for a 4 day/3 night girls trip in Texas. I ended up feeling pretty amazing during the entire trip and the timing couldn’t be better. Since then, I’ve felt like myself most of the time with some occasional mild nausea. I’ve had a lot more energy and rarely take naps (though I did take one yesterday as I didn’t feel great all day). I’ve been more motivated to workout and not just in the morning. I’m starting to show a lot more, but I’m not having a lot of round ligament pain yet which is nice. Overall, I’d say I’m in the sweet spot of pregnancy and trying to just enjoy it now while I can.
How Many Weeks: This covers weeks 15-17. If you missed the first trimester post, get it here.
Weight Gain: Up 11 pounds total, 6 of which happened in the last 3 weeks alone! Yikes! I’m thinking it was a growth spurt mixed with the fact that I had two back to back friends weekends full of lots and lots of yummy food (not that I haven’t been eating whatever I want basically before this….).
Movement: I can feel them! But not from the outside. Just the inside, and not all that often. It’s a fun feeling though, I can’t wait till feel the first kick!
Symptoms: Occasional headaches and mild nausea but not bad! I’m definitely ready for bed each night but not exhausted like I was in the first trimester.

Cravings/Aversions: Most of my aversions are gone and I’ve been able to eat salad again which is great! Lately my cravings have been for apples, french fries, and S’mores (we’ve been making them on our gas powered fire pit in the backyard). Now that I’m feeling better I’m going to stop buying junk food for the house (things like bagels, english muffins and Sour Patch Kids candy have been in regular rotation!!!) and only eat that kind of stuff when I’m out, like I normally do.
Purchasing/Borrowing: My friend Allison and my sister in law both gave me a ton of maternity clothes to borrow and they are all super cute! But since I was pregnant in the summer last time, I did purchase a few winter essentials like a maternity hoodie, maternity warm jacket, maternity sweater and a couple of really cute wintery floral dresses from Pink Blush for our family photos and holiday events. I also had to purchase new bras because NONE of mine fit – I am spilling out of them and they are uncomfortable. I just went up in the band size and that helped make everything more comfortable. On the baby front, as you may have seen, a generous friend gave us literally hundreds of girl clothes from size preemie to 2T. Allison and my sister in law also gave me a ton of stuff and my friend with triplets gave me her BrestFriend double nursing pillow (my original BrestFriend was one of my fav things with Siena). I’m not sure how often I’ll actually tandem nurse but glad I have it.
Maternity Clothes: I am still in between regular and maternity clothes. I’m still able to fit in a few of my non-maternity pants, but not many. I can wear non maternity shirts but depending on the style they look awkward. There are a few maternity shirts that fit correctly because they’re nice and tight so I have been wearing those but there are several that would look silly if I wore them now. My bump is SIGNIFICANTLY bigger than it was last pregnancy – I’m showing about 8-10 weeks ahead. For reference, here I am at 17 weeks with Siena.
Exercise: I’ve been running 3-4 days a week lately, usually anywhere from 3-5 miles at a time. I’m running a 10K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving which is my main goal at this point. Luckily I’ve had a lot of friends to run with lately (this week I ran with 4 different friends!!!) which has made running really enjoyable. I am slowing way down and taking more walk breaks, but I’m still mostly running. It definitely doesn’t feel “easy” like it used to, but I’m careful to make sure I can still easily talk while running. Besides that, I’ve been doing 3-4 Beachbody workouts per week at home – first 21 Day Fix, then Clean Week, and now the 80 Day Day Obsession preview workouts (which are happening again next week if you want to try them!!!). I generally feel REALLY good during my Beachbody workouts, although I do modify and have to take more breaks when my heart rate goes up. Beachbody has several prenatal workouts available so I’ll probably do those in the second half of pregnancy, particularly once I can’t lie on my back.

Best Moments: Siena seems to get that she’s going to be a big sister and has two sisters on the way. A cute moment was when she looked at my belly and said “it’s getting big!” And then this morning she lifted up my shirt and hugged my belly and then kissed it! She’s going to be such a sweet big sister.
Missing: Alcohol, particularly wine and beer.
Looking Forward To: The Christmas season! I can’t wait to show Siena the joy of Christmas. We’re also taking a short trip to the mountains around Christmas as a family of three which will be fun (and my last trip for a very long time).
Fellow moms, what was your #1 pregnancy craving?
