Happy Tuesday! Today I wanted to spend some time catching up with you guys – I know I’ve been focused on talking a lot about LIIFT4 and the babies, so I wanted to switch things up a bit (though you know I can’t NOT talk about fitness or babies) and have a virtual coffee date (my favorite kind of date).
If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you…
Mike and I just got back from a weekend in Idyllwild (a tiny mountain town in Southern California) celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary, 100% kid free. It was really incredible to get about 48 hours of much needed one-on-one time and we enjoyed some great food, hiking, coffee and drinks! On our wedding day, we wrote letters to each other and put them inside a box with a nice bottle of wine. The idea was that we would wait 5 years to open the box and drink the wine and read the letters, unless our marriage was tested to the point before that where we felt like we needed to read them sooner (where the wine would give us a nice buzz and we’d read the later sand fall back in love, presumably).
We made it to 5 years (doesn’t mean we didn’t have our struggles of course – marriage is hard work!) and enjoyed the wine and reminiscing. We also ate a lot of delicious food, drank yummy coffee and went for an awesome 9 mile hike. These basic pleasures are our favorite things to do together, and what we realized after reading our letters is that although our day to day life has changed a lot (who would have guessed we’d have THREE kids by now!?), we still enjoy doing the same things together that we did when we got married – we just may not have as much time for it now!

Of course I’d talk about sleep, because I’m tired! As soon as I tell people that the twins & Siena are sleeping well, they wake up in the night again (Siena keeps crawling into our bed! Argh). But seriously, we’re making big improvements in the sleep department and the twins even BOTH slept through the night both nights that they stayed with Mike’s parents that we were out of town (and the night afterward, which we were thankful for!). Last night on the other hand… But regardless, I’m planning a blog post with their schedule for later this week.
This season of Big Brother is SO good (but no spoilers please, I’m always an episode or two behind).
Siena is going to be 3 years old in a few short weeks and I can’t believe it! We started a tradition last year of taking her to the pumpkin patch and letting her pick out a pumpkin and we’re also having a casual birthday party for her at the park (with donuts AND cake, per her request).
I started 80 Day Obsession yesterday. After much debate, I decided to dive in – I originally was thinking that I’d wait til after Rock n’ Roll Los Angeles half at the end of October to start 80DO, but there’s a new Shaun T program coming out in January and I want to be able to do it the day it comes out. So…when I looked at the calendar I realized now is the time! I loved LIIFT4 and considered doing another round but there’s nothing like doing a program for the very first time to inspire you to give it your all! I won’t be following the nutrition plan 100% but am going to do my best with some balance. I’ll be honest, this program intimidates me a bit at this stage of my life, but I love a challenge so I’m going to do my best! I’m going to follow my 80 Day Obsession & Running hybrid calendar and skip the cardio flow workout each week, so it’s “just” 5 workouts per week and I’ll get 2-3 runs in on top of it, so it will require 1-2 double days which will be harder to swing (I’ll be able to run with the stroller soon which will help!). Since my only goal for RnR Los Angeles is to finish, I think that’ll work just fine. I just need to be sure I’m getting proper recovery and take rest days when I am feeling run down. My motto right now is progress, not perfection!
No, I’m not at my pre-pregnancy weight and most of my jeans don’t fit, but that’s ok ! I’ve had quite a few people ask if I am, so I wanted to put it out there that I’m not. I’m only 5 months postpartum, I feel strong and good, and that’s all that matters! I will probably just buy some new jeans for the fall so I’m not stressing about what to wear once the weather gets cooler. Plus, I’ve gained a lot of muscle and my butt may never fit back into those jeans!

If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
Thanks for the post Nicole! Congrats on 5 years of marriage! I’m running my first 13.1 Nov 4 (I trained for a half marathon 2 years ago but injured my ankle playing tennis and had to have major surgery that sat me back 18 months). My goal is just to finish, and I’ve been enjoying your training updates. After my ankle surgery, I got really into strength training, so I fit running around a 5x/week strength training schedule.
That’s so exciting!!! Wishing you great luck at the race and ENJOY!! The first is so fun!
