Dear Scarlett & Rowan,
I can’t even believe that we’re nearing the final month of 2018 and that you’re growing up so fast. This month was another crazy one full of milestones and it was fun to watch!

Scarlett, you learned not only to sit steadily on your own this month, but as soon as you mastered that you started scooting and a week or so later you were crawling on all fours! It was incredible to watch you master it so quickly. Rowan, you were already sitting on your own and getting on all fours and rocking back and forth last month, but you took your time mastering the skill before going for it and crawling the night before your 7 month birthday. Now we have two crawlers and we are using our playpen a lot more often to keep you safe (baby proofing is next on our list). Oh, and Rowan, you are freakishly limber and can do the splits! It’s kind of incredible.

You both are incredibly squirmy – during diaper changes, bottle feeding, changing clothes – you just want to move! Rarely do you want to cuddle anymore and just want to be held if it means you’re being walked around so you can look at new and exciting things! You both love music and when we sing to you, you break out into a big smile!
You both started eating solid foods this month and you love them! We are doing Baby Led Weaning (BLW) just like we did with your sister, so you are eating soft solid foods and self-feeding instead of purees. You both have two teeth on the bottom which helps, but teeth aren’t required for BLW. Rowan took to eating right away and it took Scarlett about a week to get into it. Your first food was sweet potato and you’ve had butternut squash, broccoli, carrots, zucchini, banana, eggs, avocado, oatmeal, chicken, tuna and more. Scarlett, you even took a big bite out of Siena’s hummus sandwich that I was holding in my hand at the park the other day! Out of all the foods, you both seem to really love avocado most (good choice)!

You’re both still sleeping through the night. Your bedtime is between 6:30-7 PM, depending on when your last nap ended, and you sleep until 6:30 or so. Most of the time you take three naps, with the third being shortest, but occasionally you’ll just take two and go to bed early. Nap time routine is super short and simple (sleep sack, white noise, pacifier, good night!) but bedtime has become a fun family event! Your sister Siena likes to bring her dancing robot into the room and grab her ukulele (that she got her first 3rd birthday) and sing you a song or two while having a dance party. Usually I sit in the glider chair and your dad may also play his ukulele. It’s a fun family moment!

This month we also started giving you baths with your sister! You each take turns getting into the bath with her. Scarlett, you really don’t like baths and you cry or fuss the entire time. Rowan, you LOVE baths and love playing with your sister’s toys.

You experienced your first Halloween this month! Your sister insisted on wearing the same costume she wore last year and I decided not to overthink it and bought you each a festive headband and bib set. I busted out my old Girl Scout vest and turned myself into a Girl Scout and your dad wore his favorite fighter pilot costume (not sure you’ll ever know what Top Gun is). We went over to the Parlier’s house for dinner and Trick or Treating and your sister had a blast.
You were both really happy this month and we absolutely love you both so much! We can’t imagine our lives without you in them now!
Love, Mama
