Rowan and Scarlett,
Two more months until you’re not babies anymore…I’m in denial! With your big sister, I was always waiting for the next milestone and gently pushing her along and with you two, I’m the complete opposite! I just want you to stay little because I know how fast it goes. And I swear this time it’s going even faster than it did with Siena.

You two are both more physical than ever! You are both able to get to standing on your own from sitting without holding on to anything and stand unassisted for several seconds. You are cruising one furniture and people’s legs and whatever else you can find like champs, and you race up the stairs. Scarlett was not interested in climbing the stairs at first but she quickly caught up and now she beats Rowan up them most of the time. You are both pushing walkers and your ride-on car around the house and I cannot wait to see who takes those first steps first! Scarlett did take just ONE step on her own earlier this week but fell to her bottom right afterward. I’d guess you’ll be walking within a month… but you really never know!

We have quite a sleep routine going, and you’re solidly on just two naps a day. You both are sleeping through the night almost every night now (teething and illness has thrown us off a couple nights) so I guess the 8/9 month sleep regression is behind us (fingers crossed). You will sometimes wake up early when I wake up around 5:30 AM and I’ll bring you both bottles and you’ll fall back to sleep for a bit. You take two naps a day, the first between 8:30/9 and the second between 1-2 PM. You usually nap for at least 1.5 hours, sometimes longer which means I can get work done while you sleep. You go to bed between 6:30-7 PM.
You are eating 3 solid meals per day still and although you’ve gotten better at getting the food in your mouth, it’s still a giant mess. I joke that the broom is my third arm. I sweep 3-4 times a day. After each meal you get your hands and face washed, and Rowan loves to put food in her hair as well. Scarlett will eat nearly anything we put in front of her and Rowan is much more picky! She will no longer eat broccoli or anything that doesn’t suit her and will grunt out in frustration if she doesn’t like what she’s being served. Her favorite foods are avocado and butter toast (I mean, of course, who doesn’t love butter toast!?). We use food pouches every other day on average but mostly you eat solid foods and are really good at chewing. Scarlett still has 6 teeth (4 on top, 2 on bottom) and Rowan just started getting the top 4 this month.

You are now communicating verbally and with your body more and more. Besides babbling, you both now will reach up to be held and use grunts and sighs to talk. We have been working on sign language for “all done” and “more” (that’s it) and it seems like you’re starting to understand all done and try to imitate us. Rowan continues to grunt as a way of communicating more than anything! Neither of you wave or clap yet though!
You both are showing more signs of separation anxiety and want to be near mommy as much as possible. It really warms my heart to see how much you love me and want to be around me! You’re both very happy in the stroller and when I take you out for a walk or to run errands in it, you barely make a peep, you’re just soaking it all in. It has been a very rainy month and we were all fighting yet another cold, so you didn’t get out of the house as much as I would have liked, but we did make it to the park several times. You both absolutely LOVE the swing and we discovered that it’s easy to just put both of you in it! You also both have no issue with sand at the park and will happily crawl all over the playground (and eat the sand).

Your sister loves you very much and she is very excited that you’re starting to show an interest in playing with her! Sometimes we all play ball together and roll it back and forth – Scarlett is great at rolling it back! Your sister has also started trying to pick you up this month which has led to a few scary moments for me! But overall she understands how to treat you safely.
We love you babies!!!
Love,
Mama
