What is Autumn Calabrese’s New Program 4 Week Gut Protocol?

The 4 Week Gut Protocol is a nutrition program created by Beachbody super trainer Autumn Calabrese to encourage overall gut health. 70% of Americans have a food sensitivity.
Through the process of eliminating foods that most often cause gastric distress & observing how your body reacts, you may be able to identify & remove troublesome foods for you.
When you do the Gut Protocol, you will be provided with step by step instructional videos from Autumn Calabrese, an approved food list & recipes.

Why I Did 4 Week Gut Protocol

By testing out 4 Week Gut Protocol, I wanted to prove that if a busy mom of 3 small children could do this, so can you!
As an Elite Beachbody coach, I was invited to be part of the test group for the 4 Week Gut Protocol & 4 Weeks for Every Body. A coach test group gets to try out the program before anyone else and give feedback. I took my role very seriously and wanted to commit 100% to this program. Plus, since it’s an elimination diet, it’s really important that you stick with it so you can truly see how the foods affect you.
I knew it would be a challenge but I was ready for a change. I love being a student of my body and I wanted to see how it would feel when I cut out the most common foods that cause intolerances and GI distress.
From Halloween & through the holidays (after I finished 645), I wasn’t treating my body well. I gained 7 pounds as a result. I wasn’t fueling it like an athlete. I was drinking 3 cups a coffee with lots of creamer a day and crashing in the afternoon. I was mindlessly eating chocolate & my kids snacks. I had defaulted to a lot of convenience foods because I felt “too busy” to prepare healthier meals. I also justified all the running and exercise I did, assuming that I didn’t need to eat super clean & could go overboard at every event, trip and party (& there were a lot of them!).
As a runner, I was also curious to see if doing the 4 Week Gut Protocol while training for my half marathon would resolve some of the GI issues that I have during long runs.
Did I Cheat (or Have Treats) on Gut Protocol?
Normally I advise all the women I work with to allow for 1-2 “treats” per week (aka a date night where you have a beer and 1 meal off plan like pizza, sushi, burger, etc) while following Portion Fix or 2B Mindset. When I lost 35 pounds after having my twins, I had at least 2 treats per week while losing 1 pound per week.
But for 4 Week Gut Protocol, I don’t recommend treat meals. I recommend 100% commitment to the food plan (that doesn’t mean 100% accuracy with the containers is necessary, but getting as close as possible helps).
I don’t recommend cheating and going off the food list while on 4 Week Gut Protocol because this isn’t about weight loss. This is actually about seeing how your body reacts to certain foods. And when you go out in the middle of the program and have pizza, beer and ice cream- you’ve just reintroduced SEVERAL foods at once that you weren’t having. If/when you feel the affects, you’ll have no idea which food. And then it’ll take your body a few days to eliminate again. I truly want you to take an “all in” mindset in these 4 weeks.
What if you have parties, vacations or holidays during 4 Week Gut Protocol?
During the 4 Week Gut Protocol, I went on a girls weekend, attended 2 birthday parties, 1 girls night, had 4 date nights, and celebrated Valentine’s Day. I only made ONE exception off the food list the entire 4 weeks (wine on the girls trip, since we were wine tasting, which I preplanned). Otherwise, I stuck 100% to the approved food list for 4 weeks.
I want to encourage you – you CAN do this for 4 weeks – but you will need to prepare. The reason I was able to stick to it, was because I planned ahead – I either ate food before, brought my own food, read the menu ahead of time. I chose restaurants that worked with the plan intentionally. I didn’t feel deprived because I enjoyed the food I was eating and I planned ahead. It’s super important not to let yourself get too hungry. Having my Shakeology every afternoon really helped me stay full in the afternoons and helped curb my sweet tooth (especially on Valentine’s Day when my kids brought home a ton of candy).
Yes, there were times I didn’t want to do this, but I did. I will share more tips once I am able to fully disclose the details of the program. Look for that blog post soon or get on the 4 Week Gut Protocol waitlist to be the first to hear updates.
4 Week Gut Protocol Weight Loss Results

Over 4 weeks, I lost 8 pounds and 6 inches. I feel absolutely amazing. I am at the lowest weight I’ve been in 7 years – since before I had my first daughter.
While my physical results from 4 Week Gut Protocol are insanely obvious, it’s really the non-physical I want to talk about:
- I don’t have an energy crash every afternoon
- I am recovering from runs faster
- My family is eating healthier
- I have learned to have fun in social settings without overindulging
- I identified emotional eating patterns
- I got more in tune with my body
- My running feels stronger
I will be slowly reintroducing the foods we eliminated to see how my body responds. But, there are many things I won’t be changing. While I wouldn’t call this program a “lifestyle” like our other nutrition plans, I truly feel like this program was a turning point for me and my family.
Here are some of the other results from women in the test group.
Who is 4 Week Gut Protocol For?
Over 70% of Americans have undiagnosed food sensitivities. This program helps you identify those foods & eat to support a healthy gut and rebalance your microbiome. Because everything is connected – your gut affects your immune system, brain functioning, and disease.
This program for me was about WELLNESS. About fueling my 38 year old body well and treating it how it deserves to be treated.
When Does 4 Week Gut Protocol Come Out?
4 Week Gut Protocol comes out on March 15th. You will need some time to prepare & allow time for your items to ship, so I recommend ordering it as soon as possible.
