LIIFT MORE is Beachbody’s newest strength training program, releasing July 2022. Here’s what a runner needs to know when considering taking on this program with running or even half marathon training.
What are the workouts like in LIIFT MORE?
LIIFT More is a traditional strength training program and the sequel to one of the most popular Beachbody programs of all time, LIIFT 4.
LIIFT MORE is for anyone who wants to efficiently build muscle with little time. The moves are foundational, basic strength moves, making it a suitable program for all levels.
LIIFT More is considered an intermediate/advanced workout program in the Beachbody on Demand library. However, due to the foundational and basic movement patterns of the strength moves & focus on correct form, anyone interested in strength training can do LIIFT More.
LIIFT MORE Program Details
- 5 strength training workouts/week, 2 rest days
- 35–45 minutes per LIIFT More workout
- 8 weeks long with 2 phases
- No workout repeats – all 40 are unique so you’ll never be bored & continue to be challenged
- HIIT component in approximately half the workouts.
- Core at the end of every workout.
Do I have to do LIIFT4 First to do LIIFT MORE?
No, you do not have to do LIIFT4 first in order to do LIIFT More. Joel has stated that the programs are separate programs that do not have to be completed in a particular order to be effective.
Difference Between LIIFT4 and LIIFT MORE
LIIFT MORE is different than LIIFT4 in a few ways:
- There are 5 workouts/week in LIIFTMORE and 4 workouts/week in LIIFT4
- There are 2 leg workouts/week in LIIFTMORE and just 1 in LIIFT4.
- There are no 100% HIIT days in LIIFTMORE (every other leg day in LIIFT4 was a 100% HIIT day with emphasis on legs0.
- LIIFT4 had a 6 week build phase followed by a 2 week peak phase; whereas LIIFT MORE has two 4 week phases.
Is LIIFT MORE a good program for runners?
The original LIIFT4 is one of my favorite Beachbody programs for runners (read this blog post to read why). I have completed LIIFT4 twice. I was postpartum with the twins the first time, running on average 12-15 miles over 2-3 runs/week. I lost 11 pounds and 9 inches in 8 weeks. Check out my LIIFT4 results and review here.
The second time I did LIIFT 4, I combined it with my half marathon training. When I did it that time I lost 2.5 pounds and 2.7 inches overall and increased my strength a lot.
I’ve always loved LIIFT4 especially for runners who like to complete an entire workout program without modifying it, since it’s just 4 workouts/week. The program encourages doing other activities on the non-strength training days and running is great option!
LIIFT MORE and Running Schedule
Deciding whether to do LIIFT MORE as a runner comes down to your individual goals and whether you are OK modifying the program or if you’re determined to complete the schedule as is.
Since there are 5 35-45 minute workouts per week, adding on a lot of mileage with this program may be difficult for most people. Additionally, the weight lifting is intended to be very heavy lifting to build serious muscle. If you are a runner with a goal to lose weight or gain muscle and are willing to do a few double days, then this program is VERY excellent for you.
Since LIIFT More has 5 workouts=/week and each workout focuses on 2+ distinct body parts (for example chest and triceps, etc. Even the leg days are broken up into different muscle groups such as hamstrings and calves), I do not recommend skipping ANY workouts. If you want to modify the program, I recommend extending the length to longer than 8 weeks.
LIIFT MORE and Half Marathon Training
Can you train for a running race with LIIFT More?
If you are a runner who is training for a half or even full marathon and want to do LIIFT MORE (like me! I’m doing Revel Big Bear full marathon in November), you can! You will likely be pretty sore in the first week of the program so I recommend working your run schedule around that.
If training for a half or full marathon, I recommend extending LIIFT MORE and doing it over a 12 week period instead of 8 weeks. This is how we are going to schedule LIIFT More into the marathon and half marathon training plans in our Run the World Fall ’22 Running Club (enrolling now if you’d like to join us!).

Do I Need a Workout Bench to do LIIFT MORE?
LIIFT More utilizes a workout bench in the program. I was thinking that it wouldn’t be a requirement to complete the program, but after doing the LIIFT More Sample workout (which I LOVED), I realized that it is necessary.
What Kind of Workout Bench Do You Need for LIIFT MORE?
- Adjustable bench that reaches 90 degrees, 45 degrees and lays flat
- Sturdy so that you can step up on it
- Optional: foldable for easy storage
I found an affordable foldable workout bench for LIIFT MORE on Amazon but I’d also recommend asking around – you never know if a friend has one you could borrow or you may be able to find a used on one Facebook marketplace or Craig’s list.

When does LIIFT MORE Come out on Beachbody on Demand?
Like all new Beachbody programs LIIFTMORE will release as a VIP access program first. VIP access for preferred members and coaches is available for purchase starting July 19th. VIP Access for customers is available August 2nd.
