When BOD + BODi merge in 2023, BODi blocks will be replacing Beachbody programs to keep you accountable and continue to get amazing results. How will BODi Blocks work? What kind of results can you expect from BODi Blocks? Will Beachbody programs be gone forever?
What Are the Types of BODi Blocks?
There will be 5 Super Blocks offered on BODi each month starting March 2023.
BODi blocks begin on the first Monday of every month. There are 5 workouts per week for the first 3 weeks. Week 4 is an “UP week” or active recovery week with fewer workouts and more focus on recovery.
- Base BODi Block – Combo of cardio & strength
- Beginner Block– Low impact workouts
- Cycling Block – All using the MYX bike!
- Iron Block– Strength training block. Intense workouts.
- Super Block – One super trainer recreates a favorite Beachbody on demand programs each month in a “super Block.” The first super block is Autumn Calabrese’s Healthy Obsession.
What is a BODi “UP week” & Why Recovery Weeks Are Important

As a runner and athlete, I’m most excited about the active recovery week that is included EVERY month on BODi Blocks. Science proves that athletes perform better when they are pushed for 2-3 weeks and then given a week to recover. We get stronger, faster, and better during rest.
All BODi Blocks will have 3 weeks consecutive exercise followed by 1 week of functional recovery.
Why Is Functional Recovery So Important?
Block periodization helps all people improve overall fitness and performance, but also consistency. People are more likely to be consistent overall when they are getting the rest they need both mentally and physically.
Block periodization is a model used by NBA, NHL and professional runners.
How Does Block Periodization Work?
1. Breaks the fatigue barrier to prevent burnout.
- Your body recovers and regenerates during the recovery week.
- You do active recovery workouts during this week.
Are Beachbody Programs Going Away?
Beachbody Programs are not disappearing!
When BOD+ BODi merge, the entire Beachbody on Demand library will be available for all members, including all your favorite Beachbody programs like P90X, 21 Day Fix, #MBF, LIIFT4 and 80 Day Obsession.
Going forward, there will only be 2 new traditional programs produced, and filmed by Beachbody super trainers each year. In the past few years, we’ve seen up to 5 new workout programs so this will be a change. The next Beachbody program is Sure Thing by Megan Davie’s (launched December 2022 – join my group to support runners with Sure Thing & BODi Blocks in 2023).
However, with BODi blocks there will actually be far more new content to choose from and you won’t have to pay for VIP access every time to use them. Your BODi membership covers all the BODi blocks, except the Super Block.
Which BODi Blocks are Best For Runners?
I’ve been combing Beachbody on Demand programs with my running for 10 years now and I know it works. I recently qualified for the Boston Marathon and used LIIFT more during my training!
I also know that sometimes it can feel daunting to try to figure out exactly how to do that & feel successful in both your running AND in strength training.
Choosing the BODi block that works for you will depend on your current goals, fitness level & preferences! Here’s how I’d look at it:
Runner who is training for a race or cannot do double days:
For this runner, I I’d recommend the traditional BODi block, or potentially the Super Block, skipping the cardio days and replacing them with a run. That would leave 3 strength training workouts a week to do along with your running.
Runner who wants to take their strength training to the next level:
For this runner, I’d recommend the Iron Block! 5 strength workouts/week along with 3-4 runs, depending on your fitness level and ability to recover between workouts. I always recommend one full day of rest per week.
Runners who are new to running:
For this runner, I’d recommend the beginner block. These low impact workouts are going to help build your fitness without overtaxing your system so that you can also focus on your runs. It’s up to you if you decide to skip the cardio workouts and substitute them for your runs, or do both, depending on how many days per week you want to run. The first beginner Super Block will be with new super trainer Lacee Green in March!
