When I did 4 Week Gut Protocol for the first time, my results were far more than weight loss.
While I lost 8 pounds and 6 inches, my non physical results were truly the life changing ones. It’s one thing to do a crash diet and see a short term weight loss, but it’s another to LEARN what foods help you feel your best and create habits around that!
Long Term Results of Beachbody’s 4 Week Gut Protocol
In the year since finishing Gut Protocol, I’ve:
- Become more aware of my emotional eating patterns
- Identified which foods help support my half and full marathon training and which don’t.
- Helped my entire family eat healthier
- Continued to eat more Whole Foods and less processed foods
- Have become more aware of ingredient food labels
- Learned to enjoy social settings without food and alcohol being the main focus
I’m not perfect – there were ebbs and flows in my habits over the last year. I particularly tend to indulge on vacations, trips, and holiday season – as do most of us. Over the holidays and summer, I gained a little weight, but once I got back to my habits, the weight came off. I don’t think this is a BAD thing – I love food and sometimes the food I want to eat doesn’t serve my body the BEST and that’s ok too.
What Happens with 4 Week Gut Protocol is Over?
When you initially finish 4 Week Gut Protocol, you introduce the foods you eliminated back one by one in the “Reintroduction Phase”. During this phase, you can see how each food truly makes you feel. I learned that I have no sensitivity to gluten or dairy, but that artificial sweeteners, sugar and alcohol affect me the most.
And once the program is over, the goal is to implement some of the habits you formed while still enjoying your favorite foods in moderation. This way, you’re continuing to see the benefits and the weight you’ve lost stays off, but you have a bit more flexibility in your food choices.
Here are some of the long term benefits that women I’ve helped with 4 Week Gut Protocol have shared with me:
“Gut Protocol helped me identify what foods I can or cannot tolerate. After my first round I was able to create my own moderation to make it a lifestyle.” – Erin
“I had my annual biometric screening and my total cholesterol was 108 – the lowest my provider has ever seen. Even though I’m not following gut protocol 100% any longer, i’me eating less processed foods, more veggies, less red meat. It’s really gratifying to see dietary changes reflected in health data like that.” – Aileen
“During 4 Week Gut Protocol I discovered that my anxiety almost completely went away when I stopped drinking coffee.” – Rachel
Here are some of the shorter term changes that women shared in our group today after 3 weeks:
“I have been feeling really good both mentally and physically since starting Gut Protocol. My runs have felt really good. My stomach hasn’t been bloated lately and I’ve noticed my clothes are starting to loosen back to pre-holiday feel.” -Allison
“I tried on my jeans that were tight at the start of the mont and now they fit so well! I also feel stronger and faster during my runs.” – Sarah
As for me – I’m 3 weeks in and down 5 pounds, but more importantly, I noticed from WEEK 1 that my running was better. I felt stronger and was even mentally tougher!
Is Gut Protocol a Weight Loss Program?
One thing I want to make clear is that Gut Protocol is not about losing weight – it’s really about creating NEW habits and identifying foods that make you FEEL your best. Weight loss is a RESULT of you eating very minimally processed, Whole Foods, but it is not the focus of the program. This doesn’t just mean digestion or GI issues, it means you’ll know which foods affect your sleep, energy, mood, running performance and even anxiety.
