Gained Weight While Running (or Even Training for a Marathon?)

If you’re a female runner who has gained weight while training & you want sustainable, non-restrictive way to lose it, keep it off and fuel your training, I want to share something exciting with you!

I have revamped my Run Fuel Program to make it even better (and completely my own)!

Why Am I Gaining Weight While Running More Miles?

When I turned 40, I had just finished my first 50K and ran more miles than I ever had during training & eating pretty healthy, I gained 12 pounds. I had to get honest with myself – would I let my age be my excuse, or would I fuel my body better, like an athlete would, so I could continue to make progress toward my big running goals?

I knew what I had to do, and I went to work. But this time was different than other times I’d lost weight because I never gained ANY of it back. In fact, over the course of the last year, I improved my nutrition even more and developed an even healthier relationship with food & have gotten into the best shape of my life at age 41.

That is why I created Run Fuel – to help other female runners who feel frustrated and overwhelmed by their bodies & the conflicting messages they’re getting to feel empowered that they do not have to give up running (or eat pounds of cottage cheese!) to feel confident in their bodies, even as they age.

That is what you will learn when you go through my 4 step run fuel process to fuel your body & running so that you lose weight & keep it off and perform your best.

But more importantly, you’ll get step by step actions & resources to put it into practice, in the context of being a busy female runner who likely works and/or has children to care for as well.

The Run Fuel Weight Loss for Runners Program was designed by me, a certified run coach & certified endurance nutrition coach, and is based on my experience coaching runners for the last 9 years.

Dieting Doesn’t Work For Runners

Runners can struggle with diets for many reasons.

First, runners need more carbs to sustain their training and many diets limit or reduce carbs. Carbs are NOT the enemy and can and should be part of your weight loss program as a runner. It’s more about what type of carbs and WHEN you eat them that matters.

Second, runners are often following a periodized training plan – meaning that their caloric needs will change day to day AND month to month. A macros based or calorie counting program can lead to both overeating and under-eating, which can make it really hard to adhere to. You may end up so hungry trying to stick with your calorie bracket one day that you binge that night. Or, you may end up eating more than you need when in a lower training cycle since you’re used to doing what you did when training volume was higher.

Third, counting calories and macros is incredibly time consuming on top of all the training you’re doing!

This 8 Week weight loss for runners program works & is sustainable because:

  • You don’t have to give up your favorite foods
  • You won’t make ALL the changes at once
  • You don’t cut food groups
  • You don’t count calories
  • You can make meals your family enjoys too
  • You won’t starve
  • You don’t have to give up running or stuff yourself with insane amounts of protein

A glimpse into what you will learn:

  • How to eat the right combination of foods & enough food to fuel your body and not starve while losing weight (without counting calories or tracking macros)
  • Which foods enhance performance and support weight loss.
  • How to prevent & manage afternoon & late night snacking sessions and/or binges
  • How to approach special occasions, travel, parties, and social events.
  • My 5 S meal planning philosophy that includes your favorite foods (even pizza if that makes you smile).
  • How your nutrition should and can change based on where you’re at in your run training & your goals (weight loss or performance)

What’s Included In the Run Fuel Weight Loss For Runners Coaching Program
