Why BODi LAVA is So Great For Runners

Short: The workouts are just 20 minutes which makes it a lot more manageable to fit into your running routine!!! I am running 6 days per week right now but still feel it is manageable to complete this program, without modification! (Often I will extend the length of a program of skip cardio workouts to make it more do-able with running).

Effective: Just because the BODi LAVA workouts are only 20 minutes doesn’t mean they are easy. There is absolutely NO rest during the entire duration. The moves are structured to challenge you and work multiple muscle groups at once to maximize your time.

Athletic: The moves in BODi Lava are great for runners. Elise Joan has been a trainer to professional athletes in her past career before joining BODi. She constantly refers to this program as an athletic conditioning program. And after doing the sample workout, I agree.

This year I have seen two physical trainers who specialize in runners. The first was related to shin splints and the second was for a running gait & running strength and mobility analysis . In addition, this year I also have been researching and reading books from experts in this area to identify which types of strength moves are best for runners to improve performance and prevent injury.

The 3 things that I believe most runners need to focus on when it comes to strength training and cross training is 1) Unilateral strength 2) Mobility and 3) Agility . BODI LAVA has moves that hit on all 3 of these areas – and that was just in the sample workout. I can’t wait to do the full program!!!

What are BODi LAVA Workouts Like?

BODi LAVA has 10 unique workout formats. Each workout in the 6 week program is unique, but you will repeat the same workout format 3 times as you move through the program.

Workout Formats (source)

  • Yoga Hybrid: An energetic combination of power yoga flow plus primal movements that focus on one side of the body at a time to build strength and balance.
  • Core Control: A challenging balance-focused sequence links the movement to your breath and fires up your entire core to create heat, stability, and core power.
  • HIIT: Burn serious calories through high-intensity intervals of yoga and primal movement. Static holds provide a productive “break” between HIIT blocks.
  • Endurance: High-repetition, bodyweight strength moves to take your muscular and cardio endurance to the next level.
  • Compound: Alternate primal and yoga movements for a simple yet challenging sequence that helps you feel strong, balanced, and powerful.
  • Primal Hybrid: This primal-focused hybrid will expand your mobility while strengthening your entire body.
  • Agility: Strength and multidirectional movement in this fast-paced athletic routine helps you build range of motion and performance.
  • Isometrics: Holding poses alternates with flowing movement for a full-body muscle burnout that builds strength and endurance.
  • Metabolic Burn: Next-level intervals combine with stabilizing yoga flows in this intense workout that burns calories and torches fat.
  • Athletic Offroad: The athletic benefits of the BODi LAVA program cannot be overstated. This signature power yoga flow will improve balance, endurance, and mobility.

With all of Elise Joan’s workouts, there is a modifier and an intensifier. The moves are accessible to all fitness types. Instead of counting reps, Elise lets you move at your own pace. You will not get any breaks so you will just need to take them yourself when you need them, and Elise reminds you of this frequently. She wants you to work within your own challenge zone to get the best results.

But how will I build muscle without weights in BODi LAVA!?

I’ll be honest, when I first heard of this program I told my friend Jen that I’d probably add a day of weight lifting to it. After I did the sample workout and saw Elise Joan’s body (JUST LOOK AT HER ARMS in this photo of us above!), I knew that wasn’t necessary.

Elise is in the best shape of her life at 48 years old after doing BODi LAVA exclusively for the last 6 months. She has not lifted ONE weight. She got a body composition analysis before and after the program and improved muscle mass and decreased body fat.

BODi Lava Results – Real Transformations

Here are some real results from the BODi lava test group (note, these are NOT runners). Check back as I will share MY results once I’ve completed the program.

This first result is a friend of mine and fellow top BODi partner, Katie Moore. Katie was already doing 2B mindset and BODi programs and in great shape before the test group! She couldn’t believe how sculpted her abs got! Her nutrition did not change!

Too good to be true? I’m going to find out! Want to find out with me?

I’m starting BODi LAVA on Monday, July 8th and am committed to finishing the program in 6 weeks. I’ll be creating 3 running schedules too if you want them!

During this time I will be going on 2 different vacations and I’m so glad I can bring LAVA with me by streaming it from my iPad or phone. I have no excuses not to complete the program and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
